St. Pancras Altarpiece

In the center St. Pancras is portrayed as a fashionably dressed youth of the 16th century, with a sword and palm branch as attributes that signify that he was martyred and how. The saint on the right is Sebastian, pictured as usual tied to a tree and pierced by arrows. The bishop on the left is hard to identify; perhaps he is a saint of local importance.
In the lunette the Virgin and Child are flanked by Saints John the Baptist (long cross, lamb on book, camel-skin garment) and Mary Magdalene (jar of ointment). Typically for the early 16th century, the child is naked and his genitals are in evidence.
